K for Kumortuli

This is my first ever blog post.Even though, I've tried to 'embark' on the blogging experience before, but patience, I lack patience. On one hand, my ambition is handicapped by my stupendous laziness and on the other, my extreme enthusiasm curbs down the 'doing' of the actual activity.Well, enough with the blabbering. My friend Arpita insisted that I start with the Kumortuli Walk that I walked with two of my friends,Kaustav and Monikinkini last October, just a week before the grand Durga Pujo!

DISCLAIMER: I'm NOT a photographer, at least do not fall into the category where one is bound to have a DSLR and a Facebook page and a million photographs of 'poor' people in black and white.I am just a person with a camera (a very prized one, that is), who has Facebook albums full of photos, mostly random, those of which are occasionally liked and 'Liked' by friends!
So,here it goes...

It rained.I remember.I went all the way from Kalyani. I had already pictured Kumortuli .The actual thing was somewhat close to what I had imagined. The relation didn't matter much. What mattered was, I actually made it! Initially, I was starstruck by the crowd of people with high profile cameras! I looked at my tiny Canon digi-cam and consoled myself  and the little thing saying, "Let's not get lost. We'll sail through!" We did. It was such a joy.I didn't have to try much hard because every place could have made for an excellent shot.Such is the flavour of the place.Yes, the flavour too gets 'photographed'! And I've kept all the photos in sepia on purpose.I felt, it goes with the whole 'Kumortuli' thing! It just does it!

Soul Sisters...
This was the first photo I took at Kumortuli. Cut out from thermokols, this piece of craftsmanship readily caught my eyes. And there is something in the way it has been placed. In spite of giving the photo a sepia effect, the colourful-ness comes across. And the soul sisters here cling together and set out on their journey to reach out to their ardent fans! They tip-toe,or shall I say, swing their way through the muddy by-lanes of Kumortuli, happily!

Zoomed in...

"Read my lips",she says! 'Read' it,and it's perfectly okay if you want to give a peck .So what if shez a 'thakur',it's all about breaking the rules!

Calm

I kept staring at that hand. The stillness, the calmness grows on you...

Masculinity(?)

Well, Asura over Kartick, anyday! Not because of the muscles but for being the optimal 'bad' boy in the scene. LOL and I'm guessing he was having a pretty bad hair day! Gel much?!

David in the debris...

Sorry,David! 'Bongo-centricism' for now! Must I point out that he's been censored! What can I say,India and censorship, they are old lovers!

Those eyes...

Come 'what' may (read customized Durga idols), these pair of  'potol-chera chokh' is here to stay!

Well, this was my Kumortuli expedition. And I'd love to go back again.I do have a feeling that my tiny little camera would be my favourite companion this time around too, as I've convinced myself that the lens does not matter, the frame and the sentiment behind it does!

Phew!
Lazy bug, in-your-face!
